Some 32 participants drawn from 23 institutions charged with the control of public funds in Francophone Africa have began meeting in Yaounde to sharpen skills that will render them more professional in the control of the management of public finances.

Opening a three-week workshop jointly organised by the Supreme State Audit Office, the Regional Council for the Training of Supreme Audit of Public Finance in Francophone Sub-Haran Africa (CREFIAF) and the International Organisation of Supreme State Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), yesterday November 2, 2015, Cameroon’s Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Supreme State Audit Office, Mbah Acha Rose Fomundam, underscored the importance of the capacity building workshop and urged participants to avail themselves with the opportunity to become certified facilitators in performance-based auditing.

While hailing the cooperation between the international training Auditing institutions and the structures charged with the control of public finances, the Minister Delegate pointed out that the capacity building workshop will not only enable them carry out performance-based auditing but will empower them to produce quality audit reports that conform to international standards.

According to CREFIAF’s Manager of Capacity Development, Celestin Mgboa Ankamtsene, Supreme State Audit institutions have a crucial role to play to carry out controls and through their reports assure public opinion of the proper management of public finances.

To him, the challenge to professionalise the corps and render personnel more performant is the main objective of the capacity building programme which seeks to align to international norms in the control of public funds.
