The Speaker of the French National Assembly, Claude Bartolone has ended a two-day visit to Cameroon.
Hon Claude Bartolone’s was on an official visit to the country since26th October 2014.
Apart from his audience at the Unity Palace on 27th October, 2014, Mr Bartolone visited several French-sustained projects within Yaounde, the National Assembly and its Chambers, as well as other top government officials.
The first stopover by the French Speaker and his entourage was at the International War College (ESIG) of Yaounde.
At the college, the French lawmaker called on the interns therein to ensure security which is the gateway to Africa’s democracy, liberty and socio-economic progress.
Hon Claude Bartolone also visited the French Institute in Yaounde where he met beneficiaries of French scholarships.
During the brief meeting, the over twenty youths expressed satisfaction with the scholarships received and hoped for better days ahead.
Claude Bartolone on his part promised his country’s continuous support in training the youths towards a brighter future.
Later in the day, Hon Claude Bartolone held talks with the Cameroon National Assembly Speaker, Cavaye Yeguie Djibril.
Top on their discussion were issues of parliamentary cooperation and security, amongst others.
The French Speaker re-assured Cameroonians of France’s support in the fight against terrorism especially in the Far North and East regions of the country.
He further promised his country’s readiness to assist Cameroon in training parliamentarians and fostering mutual economic development while improving cultural links.
Hon Cavaye Yeguie of Cameroon during a special dinner, expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation between both parliaments, especially with the successful training of 84 parliamentary staff at the French ENA Institute of Administration in the last three years.
The French House Speaker, Claude Bartolone also visited the Cameroon parliament’s training institute and held a working session with the Members of Parliament of some political parties.
In a press conference to crown the 48-hour visit, Hon Claude Bartolone noted that his visit to Cameroon though short was rather enlightening, interesting and symbolic.
This, he explained, follows after he successfully visited several French-related projects in the country and met some key political officials as well.
