Full Time: Cameroon 1 - 1 Guinea

Cameroon Guinea AFCON 2015

Sat, 24 Jan 2015 Source: CameroonWeb

FULL TIME: CAMEROON 1-1 GUINEA. Quite shocking to see this one end in a draw with all the chances we had in the second half. A lack of quality in front of goal came back to plague both teams, who will both feel they deserved to claim all three points. You can wipe clean the first two games now, as we are back to square one in Group D with all four teams tied on points after a flurry of 1-1 draws.

90 + 3mins Substitution        Ibrahima Traore (OUT)  François Kamano (IN)

90 + 3mins That will do it! A fourth consecutive 1-1 draw in Group D!

90 + 2mins PENALTY CLAIMS DENIED! Into the second of two minutes of stoppage time and Conte streaks in behind the defence. Guihoata tries to recover and takes him out from behind, yet no penalty is given! There was a clear push in the back and the Guinea players are in disbelief!

90mins THAT WAS THE CHANCE! Cisse carelessly concedes a free kick with a foul on Choupo-Moting on the left. The delivery into the area is superb and is met by an unmarked Mbia in the centre. He has the goal at his mercy but sends his header wide and looks up to the heavens in disbelief! Absolutely shocking miss!

88mins draw is looking increasingly likely now, with the two teams struggling to keep possession. It has become very sloppy in midfield, and barring a late mistake from either side, we could very well have another 1-1 stalemate in Group D.

86mins Very wasteful from Conte, after much deliberation and build up, the forward goes for goal himself and drills it over the bar. Cameroon used the stoppage to catch a breather and will look to muster up one last push for a winner.

84mins Guinea are taking a much more patient approach in their build up play now, not as eager to get forward as they have been at times. They do well to work it into the final third and Sylla wins a free kick on the edge of the area after a handball.

82mins Substitution        Raoul Cédric Loe  Franck Kom

82mins BRAVE GOALKEEPING! The substitute Matoundi gets into the area on the end of a lovely through ball from Moukandjo and sends a teasing ball across the face of goal. Salli tries to get onto it but Naby Yattara dives in at his feet to punch it away at the vital moment before getting walloped by the midfielder.

80mins Substitutions and fouls continue to slow the pace of the match. The two sides are settling in here for one last go at it inside the final 10 minutes.

78mins STAT ATTACK: Cameroon have lost just four of their last 28 matches at the Africa Cup of Nations, excluding extra time and penalties (W15, D9).

77mins Substitution        Vincent Aboubakar  Franck Etoundi 76mins Into the final quarter of an hour and the pace is beginning to slow. The two sides have done so well in attack and it could just be that tired legs are beginning to take over. Can either side muster a final push for a winning goal?

72mins Unless one of these teams can find a winning goal, we are on our way to a fourth consecutive 1-1 draw in Group D. That would essentially write off the first two round of games, putting all the onus on the final matches between Cameroon v Ivory Coast, and Guinea v Mali.

70mins MISSED OPPORTUNITY! Another lethal attack from Cameroon sees Choupo-Moting tee up Aboubakar in the centre. The striker has Moukandjo wide-open to his left, but cannot get his footing right as Camara intervenes. It goes only as far as Salli just inside the area, but the midfielder's shot is deflected behind for a corner. 68mins Tension begins to rise as we approach the final 20 minutes. Guinea have really fallen out of this contest, failing to muster up any sort of attack in the last 15 minutes.

66mins Substitution        Seydouba Soumah (OUT)  Naby Deco Keïta (IN)

66mins GLANCED WIDE! Cameroon amping up the pressure now as they come ever so close to a go-ahead goal! Bedimo finds space on the left and sends a superb ball in for Aboubakar. The keeper cannot get a touch to it as it reaches the striker who just heads it wide of the open net! How has he missed that?!

64mins

62mins Substitution        Ambroise Oyongo (OUT)  J. Guihoata (IN)

62mins Interesting change here for Cameroon as the right-back Ambroise Oyongo is taken off for Jerome Guihoata, who plays in France's League Two with Valenciennes. He is usually a centre-back, but will likely shift onto the right as to not tamper with the formation.

60mins Cameroon are starting to take control again and Choupo-Moting wins a free kick as Salli is penalized for a foul. The delivery is sent toward the far post and met by Mbia, but he heads it wide! Chedjou was waiting to pounce if the midfielder had left it for him. 58 mins NEARLY THERE FOR SALLI! Moukandjo finds space on the right and picks out the run of the midfielder at the near post. He gets there ahead of the keeper, but cannot get a touch on it, allowing Naby Yattara to collect.

56 mins Chedjou has been a rock for Cameroon at the back! The defender again makes a vital interception to prevent Guinea from going through on goal. The Galatasaray man has read the game exceptionally well and has been integral in helping his side stay in this game. 54 mins STAT ATTACK: The two teams have met just once previously at the Africa Cup of Nations, settling for a 2-2 draw in the 1998 group stage. Cameroon went on to win the group while Guinea failed to advance to the knockout stages.

52 mins Traore is back on the pitch and that is very encouraging for Guinea. Cameroon try and get on the front foot and Salli is played through on goal, but the substitute Cisse recovers so well to intervene and break up a promising chance.

50  mins The National Elephants are looking very dangerous in this second half, but have been dealt another injury blow! It is very unlucky for them as Traore is now down, pounding the pitch in frustration. He took a hard kick in the calf that went unpunished, but hopefully should be able to continue.

48 mins Guinea on the front foot early in this second half. Conte gets on the end of a strong pass from Constant, but fails to deliver a cross into the area as it is cleared behind for a corner. The pressure stays on and Traore's cross eludes the keeper, nearly slotting in at the far post! What a goal that would have been! 46 mins Florentin Pogba has an ice pack on his thigh as sits on the bench with Guinea getting this second half underway.

HALF TIME: CAMEROON 1-1 GUINEA. It has been a very enjoyable first half at the Nuevo Estadio de Malabo. Moukandjo opened the scoring as the Indomitable Lions jumped up to a marvellous start, but Guinea settled it and managed to shift the momentum, creating a few chances of their own before Traore's strike pulled them level. Everything still to play for in the second half!

45 + 2 mins Substitution        Florentin Pogba  Abdoulaye Cisse

45 + 2 mins bdoulaye Cisse is on in place of the injured centre-back, and as the defender runs out onto the pitch, Cameroon take their throw-in and the referee brings an end to the first half.

45 mins There will be a minimum of two minutes of added time, but it could be more as play has yet to resume following the injury.

44 mins Worrying moments for Guinea as Florentin Pogba is down and in significant pain. The cart and stretcher are out to carry him off the field and more of a worry than just this game is the defender's long-term fitness. He has his hands over his face as he is carted off, which is a very sad sight - you have to feel for the Saint-Etienne man. 42mins Assist ---- Issiaga Sylla

42 mins Goal  Ibrahima Traore

42 mins GUINEA ARE LEVEL ON THE STROKE OF HALF THROUGH A SUPERB STRIKE!

41 mins JUST WIDE FROM CHOUPO-MOTING! The forward takes down a ball near the top of the area, turns and fires a shot toward the far post. He has the keeper beat, but cannot find the right side of the woodwork as it trickles wide!

37 mins FINE SAVE! Following the script, back come Guinea in attack. Traore is played through on goal by Yattara after a clever run, but Ondoa denies him from point-blank range! That chance was crying out for a finish.

35 mins Back the other way for a chance! The electrifying pace we had earlier appears to be back. Aboubakar weaves his way between two defenders atop the area and tries to pick out the near corner, but just drags his shot wide. The Porto striker is starting to come to life!

33 mins HEADED WIDE! Soumah shows great determination to get on the end of Conte's cross and leap over N'Koulou to direct a header towards goal. He cannot hit the target, however, as it trickles wide of the far post.

32 mins Yellow Card ---- Boubacar Fofana

31 mins Nasty tackle! Again desicion making has been a problem for Guinea, and this time a pass from Traore is intercepted by Mbia. This puts Fofana under pressure and the midfielder is forced to dive in and commit a cynical challenge to prevent a break. After much deliberation and protests from both sides, the referee opts to issue him a yellow card.

29 mins The momentum has really begun to shift in Guinea's favour, but they have yet to pick out that final ball to convert one of these chances. Traore sends a diagonal ball through for Constant, who has the beating of Oyongo, but again there is too much behind it as it results in a goal kick.

27 mins GREAT HEADER! A Guinea corner is stamped and delivered to a wide-open Camara at the far post. Loe realizes the danger his side is under, and somehow gets over just in time to head clear at the vital moment. That was a fine piece of defensive work from the midfielder.

25 mins Defensive errors and a willingness to attack from both teams has made for quite an eventful opening

25 mins. Neither side has been nearly convincing enough at the back, and the two managers will be telling their sides to just settle down a bit and avoid making rushed decisions.

23 mins STAT ATTACK: Cameroon posted the best goal differential in qualifying, scoring nine goals while conceding just one, going undefeated through their six matches (W4, D2). The only goal they allowed was in a 4-1 victory over Ivory Coast.

21 mins MUCH BETTER! Guinea are building some momentum as they begin to attack at a much quicker rate. They have so much pace in their team, but Chedjou is showing he is no slouch either, staying stride for stride with Yattara to sniff out yet another attack.

19 mins WHAT IS HE DOING? Ondoa makes a mess of things at the back and gives the ball away to Yattara. The striker remains up after the challenge, but the keeper recovers wonderfully, diving across to deflect it behind. Ondoa is down after the save, perhaps trying to save himself a bit of embarrassment. Yattara very well could have won a penalty there had he gone to ground.

17  mins This game has swung wide open! Back and forth the teams go, looking to attack. There is every reason for the two teams to push ahead and go for the victory, with a draw doing nothing to help either team's cause, while a defeat would not eliminate them, either.

15 mins Guinea are playing with fire at the back. They are sleeping in defence, with a few errors, the latest of which resulted in a corner and a goal. The National Elephants look tired and sluggish and are in danger of letting this slip away from them if they cannot find another gear.

13 mins--- Goal  B. Moukandjo Chedjou tries to claim it, as Moukandjo's corner is whipped in toward the near post and keeper makes a bit of a mess of it, spilling it over the line! It doesn't look like the centre-back got a touch on it and this may be Moukandjo's goal straight from the corner flag!

13 mins THE CHANCES KEEP COMING AND THE BALL IS FINALLY IN THE BACK OF THE NET FOR CAMEROON!

12 mins  WHAT A CHANCE! The delivery from the corner is not the greatest, but Chedjou meets it and heads back into the danger area. Mbia manages to fend off a defender and head toward goal, but straight at the keeper! Either side and he has a goal!

11 mins  MAGNIFICENT SAVE! Bedimo makes a nice run forward into space and whips in a low, searching cross. It bouces towards Aboubakar, who shows great technique to take it on the volley, but Naby Yattara dives to his right to keep it out!

9 mins  STAT ATTACK: Cameroon are unbeaten in their last 10 matches against Guinea across all competitions (W6, D4). The Indomitable Lions last were defeated by the National Elephants in an Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match back in 1979.

7 mins Good chance at a counter, but it is wasted by Guinea. Following a Cameroon corner, the National Elephants look to break. The speedy Ibrahima Traore runs into space on the right and shouts for a pass, but Mohamed Yattara puts too much behind it as it runs behind safely for a goal kick.

5 mins  NEARLY DISASTROUS! Florentin Pogba with little to no pressure on him, sends a pass straing into the feet of Edgar Salli. The attacking midfielder tries to go about taking the chance himself, however, which lets the Saint-Etienne centre-back off the hook.

3 mins Not the most thrilling start to the match, as the nerves still need to settle out on the pitch. Possession is being squandered a bit carelessly by both sides but it is simply a case of the teams needing to settle in.

1 mins  Cameroon kick-off and we are underway! The Indomitable Lions in green, red and yellow. Guinea in white. Here we go!

The players are out on the pitch and we are just moments away from the start of the match. The atmosphere is magnificent inside the stadium which should help add to the intensity and excitement of this tie!

Striker Seydouba Soumah, who missed the opening match through suspension, is welcomed back with open arms into the starting XI. He replacy Naby Keita, the only change from their opening match. They have, however, appeared to tweak the formation, with the afformentioned Soumah, along with Ibrahima Traore, playing in more narrow roles behind the striker but ahead of a three man midfield. Ibrahima Conte and Kevin Constant will be tasked with providing width to Guinea's play, while Boubacar Fofana will have the important role of providing cover for the back line.

Midfielder Eyong Enoh is out after suffering a leg injury in the first half of their draw with Mali and is replaced by captain Stephane Mbia, who is a welcome return from suspension. That is the only change made by coach Volker Finke who likes what he saw from his side in the opening match. Vincent Aboubakar remains the lone striker, but will have plenty of support from Eric Choupo-Moting and Benjamin Moukandjo on the wings, with Edgar Salli in behind.

GUINEA SUBS: Zayatte, Abdoul Camara, Landel, Idrissa Sylla, Cisse, L. Camara, N. Keita, A. Keita, Kamano, Diarra, Aboubacar Camara, Paye.

CAMEROON SUBS: N'Dy Assembe, Kweuke, Guihoata, N'Jie, Bagnack, Mandjeck, Etoundi, Djeugoue, Kom, Ekeng, Abogo.
