The Minister of Water and Energy Resources, Basile Atangana Kouna has announced that funds are available for the project to increase water supply in Yaounde and its vicinities through the River Sanaga.
The Minister disclosed the information over the weekend as his staff presented New Year wishes to him.
Minister Basile Atangana Kouna explained that the Government of Cameroon has signed a convention with the Eximbank of China to assist in realising the project.
He further said that the work will begin immediately since the Chinese and French companies in charge of executing the project have already settled on the site. Some of the material to be used is also already available at the port in Douala.
The water project is just one of the many the Ministry has embarked on. Other ongoing projects include the construction of an extension of the Akomnyada factory over the Nyong and the rehabilitation of the Mefou water station.
The initiation of the grand project to improve water supply in Yaounde and its surrounding towns dates back to April 2014 when the Head of State, H.E Paul Biya passed a decree in that regard.
