The grass field participatory and decentralised rural development project (GPDERUDEP) has launched its phase two project in Sabongari, Nwa subdivision NWR.

Financed by the African Development Bank(ADB), Islamic Development Bank(IDB) and the Cameroon government, the second phase of GPDERUDEP project in the Northwest region is being executed in some four selected production basins of Baw/Bonso, Santa/Tubah, Widikum and Gayama.

It shall feature the creation and rehabilitation of rural roads, an extension of electricity, construction of markets, realisation of food transformation centres that seeks to trigger an agricultural boom in the various production basins and empower local farmers and disincline the basins.

Speaking at the launch of the project in Sabongari, March 14, the director general of MIDENO NW, john BiginehNdeh said the activities of the project fall within the prime objective of improving the lives of citizens and that the coming of phase two of the project was a timely gesture in times of need.

“I am great full to be launching this project today.Just like a mustard seed, GPDERUDEP was founded and today its achievements have grown remarkably and we are still counting. Let me remind you all that the success of the second phase of the project just like the first shall greatly rely on you the beneficiary.

I enjoined you to participate and make the project succeed just like the first phase by playing your respective roles with diligence and fairness; all stakeholders should be readily available to the management team, be constructive in your criticism such that the resources obtained from the banks can be fully optimised” said MIDENO director.

Speaking on behalf of the beneficiary councils of Nwa, Mbieme and Ndu that constitute the Baw/Bonso basin, the 1st deputy mayor of Nwa subdivision, Lawrence Menyong, describe the launch of the project phase two in Sabongari as the beginning of the disenclavement of Nwa subdivision.”Nwa sub division is still raw. Food stuff can’t reach the market on time because of lack of good roads.

Social amenities is still a far-fetched entity in this area. I will want GPDERUDEP to involve the local community in the execution of the project. They do not know the cost of this project to be executed and could misuse it when completed.” Lawrence Menyong averred.

In a question and answer session, the locals and officials of GPDERUDEP discussed at great length, clearing all doubts and preparing the leeway for the smooth execution of the project which is currently being executed with the road rehabilitation from Mbiame to Bonso far advanced. The project to be executed partly by Chariot limited with Michel Nkeng as CEO shall wallop a lump sum of CFA 19 billion.

The first phase spanned from 2004-2011 and was considered the best amongst projects sponsored by ADB, x hence the second phase which started since 2014 but was delayed for additional funds, which officials say is now available.
