Gabon seeks Cameroon’s military superiority in Gulf security

The Prime Minister, Head of Government, Philemon Yang has received in audience the Gabonese Minister of Defence, Ernest Mpouho Epighat who was bearing a sealed message from the Gabonese President, Ali Bongo Ondimba to President Paul Biya.

The audience accorded by the PM on 17th November 2014 centred on security challenges instigated by the insurgence of the Nigerian terrorists group, Boko Haram in the Far north of Cameroon and recent crisis in the Central African Republic.

The Gabonese Minister of Defence thanked President Paul Biya for ensuring a calm atmosphere in the Gulf of Guinea thereby encouraging development.

Most importantly the confidential message lauded efforts of the Head of State and Gulf of Guinea friends in setting up the Sub-regional Headquarter in Yaounde, Cameroon.

The visiting Minister further expressed the Gabonese President’s determination to stand by the Gulf of Guinea countries in financial and military aspects to ensure that kidnappings, piracy and illegal activities exercised in the Gulf cease.

Both parties evaluated the level of friendship between Cameroon and Gabon, promising to extend it to other domains in the socio-economic fields, so as to strengthen corporation ties.

The Gabonese Minister of Defence was accompanied to the Star building by Gabon’s Ambassador to Cameroon, Paul Patrick Biffot.
