Germaine Ahidjo accuses Biya of preventing return of Ahidjo’s remains

25 years after his burial in Senegal, Germaine Ahidjo accuses Paul Biya of preventing the return of the remains of her husband in Cameroon.

The former first lady was the guest on Radio France Internationale (RFI) on Monday, November 24 2014.

November 30, 1989, the former president Ahmadou Ahidjo died in Senegal. 25 years later, the remains of the man who governed Cameroon with an iron hand for two decades, still based in the famous cemetery of Yoff in Dakar.

Interviewed by Karim Frenk, RFI correspondent in Senegal the former first lady did not hide her vis-à-vis bitterness towards her husband’s successor, the head of state of Cameroon: "We, his family, together with my children, we are always there with him to guard him, in fact, the Cameroonian heritage. I expect that he restores my husband. I heard in Cameroon that I did not want to bring the body of my husband. It's not that I do not want to. I said that I would like it restored and I officially want the body brought back to Cameroon with dignity and honor. That’s all I asked. I have not heard that Biya had pardoned Ahidjo, because it's Biya who condemned Ahidjo. He, who has been given power, Why? There was definitely a grudge behind it, there was certainly jealousy. There was ... I do not know ...”
