Some 10 Cameroonians working at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Yaounde last Friday, January 15, 2015 were recognised and honoured by the Republic of Cameroon and the Federal   Republic of Germany. During a solemn ceremony at the residence of the Germany Ambassador to Cameroon, the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Grégoire Owona, awarded labour medals to 10 exemplary Cameroonians working at the German Embassy in Yaounde.

Minister Grégoire Owona told the recipients that the labour medals were a sign of recognition not only from their German employer but also from the Republic of Cameroon for their commitment and hard work at their place of work. While calling on the meritorious workers to do better at their job site, the Minister of Labour and Social Security urged other workers to worker harder so as to merit a medal. The German Ambassador to Cameroon, Holger Mahnicke, said according to law, they are obliged to offer labour medals to their local staff who are Cameroonian colleagues.

Ambassador Holger Mahnicke said as diplomats coming from foreign countries, they greatly rely on their local staff for information and ways to get settled in their new country of work. While acknowledging the reliability of some of their local staff which was worth recognising, the Ambassador thanked Minister Grégoire Owona for honouring their invitation.
