Germany committed to peace preservation - Ambassador

The Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Cameroon, His Excellency Dr. Klaus Ludwig Keferstein, has stated that his country remains committed in the preservation of peace, respect of human rights, freedom, democracy and good governance in Cameroon.

He said Germany is also committed in the fight against famine and support sustainable economic and social development in Cameroon.

He made the statement in Yaounde recently, during celebrations marking German Unity. In the course of the grandiose occasion attended by top brass of Government, representatives of diplomatic missions in Cameroon, alongside other dignitaries, Keferstein lauded the Germano-Cameroonian cooperation.

Making an appraisal of the ties between both nations, Keferstein said Germany is contributing in increasing Cameroon’s capacities to play a key role in combating insecurity in the Central African Sub Region.

In terms of cooperation for development, the German Ambassador noted that the intergovernmental exchanges at the end of 2013 led to the allocation of FCFA 63 billion for the 2014-2016 bilateral cooperation.

To him, the areas highlighted for this funding are sustainable management of natural resources, good governance, public finance, decentralisation, as well as rural development. He said some support has been put in place to ameliorate maternal health.

The Diplomat said German cooperation, alongside the key role played by the GIZ and KFW in the execution of programmes is trying with a lot of success, to contribute to the fruition of development objectives in Cameroon.

“Culture and sciences is another essential element in our relations. The number and intensity of cooperation between universities of our two countries is on the increase. It is known that Cameroonian students in Germany form the greatest group of students amongst all other countries”, he added.
