The government has invited the population and international partners to join hands in the management of the continuous great influx of refugees from neigbouring Nigeria and Central African Republic.
The call was launched last July 4 in Yaoundé by the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization, Rene Emmanuel Sadi during the 3rd session of the inter-ministerial adhoc committee charged with managing emergency refugee situations in Cameroon in a bid to overcome the humanitarian, security, coordination of action in the field and socio-economic challenges.
He hinted that the committee is working to improve the coordination of interventions and the constant exchange of information and refugee data.
Minister Sadi recommended synergy between government, its partners and the population in the management of the continuous influx of refugees in the country.
The situation is unprecedented as over 136,280 refugees have arrived Cameroon this mid year alone with the influx of these refugees attributed to the crisis in the Central African Republic and the Boko Haram threat in Nigeria.
Speaking to the press, the UN High Commission Resident Representative in Cameroon, NDEYE Ndour disclosed that “about 10,000 refugees come into Cameroon each week and when they arrive, we discover that many are wounded by machetes, traumatized etc.”
The inter-ministerial meeting that brought together other ministers such as the Minister of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development, Emmanuel Ngonou Djoumessi, Minister Atanga Nji Paul, Minister of External Relations, Pierre Moukoko Mbonjo, Minister of Environment, Protection of the Nature and Sustainable Development, Helle Pierre, Minister of Public Health, Andre Mama Fouda etc and was opened up to representatives of international organizations.
