Dr. Dissongo Jean II has been fired as Director of the image-battered Douala Laquintinie Hospital.
The director, whose administration recently came under severe criticism by the public, was replaced by Dr. Njock Louis Richard following a prime ministerial order issued today by Philemon Yang in Yaounde.
Tuesday’s sack described by many as “belated” comes after social media put pressure on government, calling for the dismissal of Dissongo.
Dr. Dissongo had been leading a state-run health facility mired in negligence and unprofessionalism.
An outrage erupted when a 31-year-old woman was abandoned to die alongside her unborn twins outside the Ashanti- Diamant maternity wing of the hospital on Saturday March 12.
The deceased, one Monique Koumate, is alleged to have been refused medical attention because she couldn’t afford payment for a necessary cesarean section.
Njock Louis, the new director, until his appointment was Director of Edea Regional Hospital.
He will have the challenge of restoring the image of Laquintinie hospital by ensuring that staff sits up and the facility provides holistic care to Cameroonians.
He will also have to fully implement recent instructions from the Minister of Public Health on ameliorating health care services.
