Public Works minister, Patrice Amba Salla, says government will in the days ahead take all necessary steps to secure funds for the completion of some major projects located in the Limbe municipality.

Minister Amba Salla, while on an inspection mission to the city, recently made stops at two sites, the Ngeme Multipurpose Sport Complex and the Cameroon Shipyard and Industrial Engineering Ltd, CNIC. At the Sport Complex, the minister and his delegation were given a detailed explanation of the entire project, from inception to the present stage, which is said to be at 100% completion.

The minister, after going through the stadium, noted his satisfaction, but emphasized on the fact that there is dire need for adequate flow of basic necessities like water and electricity, and most importantly, the construction of an accessible road to and from the stadium.

“The stadium cannot be complete without a befitting road network; we are lucky there is no mud, but we must ensure that the stadium is accessible and we are going to do a lot of studies to see how we can construct an accessible road”, Amba Salla said, he observed that things have to be done urgently, since Cameroon hopes to use the stadium in hosting upcoming CAF competitions in the near future.

During the next stop at the Limbe Shipyard Project, the minister was again given details about the project, before going around, having a view of what obtains.

After observing that work has been executed to about 55%, the Minister said various corrective measures have been taken to wave out some delays witnessed, and “We have to look for funds to complete this project; that is the main issue”.

Also, the newly installed General Manager of Chantier Naval, Forgwei Alfred Mbeng, expressed happiness with the current level of work at the site, but said much still has to be done at the level of finance. “We have crossed the average level, but we hope that with the recent funding released by the minister of finance to the tune of 100 million to help the situation. Our funders, who for a while have not been with us, will take back action”.

At the end of the visit, Minister Amba Salla said he is very proud of these projects which tie with the greater achievement programme, and said more is still in the pipeline to give Limbe a bright future, like a motorway, a deep seaport and a railway, amongst others.
