Government pays homage to Senator Francis Nkwain

The Head of State of Cameroon represented by the Prime Minister Head of Government Philemon Yang, has this Thursday 13th November honoured a fallen national hero, Member of the Upper house of Assembly, Bochong Wainchom Isidore Francis Nkwain who died on 19th October 2014 in Yaounde.

Last respects were being paid to this Cameroon’s finest brain as from Thursday morning during the removal and coffining of the mortal remains at the Yaounde General Hospital in the presence of the Prime Minister, Government Ministers, Parliamentarians and Senators, deceased family, friends and well-wishers.

A bouquet of flowers bearing the name of the Head of State Paul Biya and wife Chantal Biya and their eulogy was placed on the coffin of late Senator Francis Nkwain.

The removal and coffining of the corpse was preceded by a requiem mass at the Queen-Mary of Apostles Cathedral at Mvolye in Yaounde in which the chief celebrant His Lordship Sosthene Leopold Bayemi exalted the Senator, Francis Nkwain for his Spiritual and financial contribution to the Catholic Church in Cameroon when he was still alive.

In his homily, the bishop presented the hero’s life comparing his faith to that of an apostle of Christ through his undying need to worship the Lord and serve the church even with a tight schedule and commitments to the nation.

The most important activity of the day was at the National Assembly in which his fellow parliamentarians paid tribute to their Head of the Department of Diplomatic Missions at the National Assembly. President of the Senate, Senator Marcel Niat Njefenji in an emotional tribute recounted his personal and diplomatic efforts to the country and the Senate specifically.

Senator Francis Nkwain was born on 19th April 1930 and has served the country as a Diplomat, Parliamentarian, President of the Board of Directors (University of Dschang) and died as a pioneer Senator.

Bochong Francis Nkwain has once been Minister of Mines, Water and Energy Resources, Minister Delegate in the Ministry of External Relations and later Minister of this Ministry and was an observer in the Commonwealth Parliamentary Conference that took place in Cameroon in October 2014.

His passion for diplomacy and external relations was the reason he fought relentlessly for the admission of Cameroon into the Common Wealth.

Late Senator Francis Nkwain will be buried today Saturday 15th November in his hometown Njinikom in Boyo Division after a pontification at the Cathedral in Bamenda and another at the Saint Anthony Parish Njinikom.
