Cameroon’s Minister of Communication, Issa Tchiroma Bakary, has granted a press conference in Yaounde to dispel allegations that the terrorist group has a local connection.

Speaking on 5th September 2014, the communication boss said Cameroon strongly condemns the activities of the extremist sect and will not serve as a breeding ground for terrorists.

He was reacting to claims that the Boko Haram attacks in the Far North Region were carried out in complicity with some groups and individuals from the Northern regions.

He was outraged by the fact that these claims spread by media organs and critics not only instils fear but threatens national unity.

The Minister unequivocally stated that the attacks are being carried out by foreign assailants who after penetrating the country to cause havoc, immediately flee to the other side of the borders.

The Minister however stated that some desperate Cameroonians might have been recruited within the ranks of the terrorist group.

The contribution of these individuals notwithstanding, Boko Haram has no place in Cameroon. The government spokesman called on Cameroonians to join forces and fight against any invader.

The controversy over Boko Haram relations with some Cameroonians heightens after the terrorist group has been making repeated incursions into Cameroonian territory and in course, carrying out massacres, abduction and destruction of property.

So far, the Cameroonian army has made significant strides and presently the message is clear, Cameroon is no safe haven for Boko Haram.
