A partnership agreement to improve on the conditions of the pigmies and the Bororos classified as indigenous persons has been signed.

The agreement signed between the Government of Cameroon and representatives of the Indigenous groups was part of activities marking the 21st edition of the International Day of indigenous people.

The theme for reflection during celebrations is “Post 2015 agenda ensuring indigenous people’s health and well-being.

Chaired by the Minister of Social Affairs Catherine Bakang Mbock, celebratory activities that took place at the Yaounde City Council included traditional displays by the indigenous groups and an exhibition of traditional and forest products.

Addressing the audience on the occasion, Minister of social affairs encouraged representatives from the indigenous communities that the terms of the partnership agreement will be scrupulously respected.

Indigenous populations according to the United Nations are those who, by their social and geographical positions are vulnerable to marginalization and a distinguished culture and tradition.

In Cameroon, the Bororos and Pigmies fall under this category.
