It was not an easy task for Governor Lele L'Afrique who braved all the odds to get to Baworo, the last village separating Cameroon from Nigeria as well as the Bakeri River which separates the North West from the South West Region.
During the tour, the ugly nature of the North West showed its face. The people of Modele and Eshimbi were at war as the Governor drove passed. It was rumoured that some two people have been buried alive and some feared dead from both sides. The bad and bumpy roads provided a rare moment indeed for the Governor to get a feel of what the people of these areas go through. Frequently, members of the convoy had to stop and push cars up sharp hills and do some digging for vehicles to pass by.
Through Benekuma, Modele, Eshimbi, Musaka and Baworo, the population came out in their numbers to welcome the Governor and present their complaints. Presenting the problems, the mayor of Wum council, Njukwi Charles, during most rainy seasons, their roads are impassable adding that Furawa is completely cut off from the entire region as the is no road leading there . He therefore pleaded with government to construct a bridge over the deadly Katsi-nala River to link up the people of Furawa to other parts of the country. He enunciated that inter-tribal conflicts are very common leading to the losses of human lives. He requested that more gendarmes be sent to these areas to help curb the rate of insecurity. He emphasised that the displaced people of Nyos are yearning to regain their homes.
While addressing the population at the different stops, Governor Lele L'Afrique called on them to desist from fighting. He emphasised that they should wipe out the issues of boundaries from their hearts and live as one. He called on them to be patriotic and promote the culture of peace. He requested the traditional, religious civil society leaders and elites to do their best to reconcile their population and accept one another.
While in Wum, he said the Wum Development Authority, WADA will be reinstated and promised to channel their other needs to hierarchy.
