Governors' Conference: Focus on security and development

Regional Governors of Cameroon’s ten regions are meeting for their 2014 second semester conference taking place in Yaounde.

The meeting focuses on the security concerns and the state of the process of decentralization.

The meeting which is taking place at a time when government has launched a three-year emergency development plan was also an occasion to do a midterm evaluation of the programme budget in the respective regions.

Each of the chief regional administrators took turns to present the situational reports in their respective spheres of command.

The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi while opening the conference reviewed the security situation in the country and measures to prepare for the end of year festivities.

“Cameroon has made great strides and won many battles against Boko Haram and other forms of insecurity, but the enemy has not yet been conquered," he said.

For their part, the Delegation General for National Security, Martin Mbarga Nguelle and the Secretary of State in the Ministry of Defence in charge of the National Gendarmerie, Jean Baptiste Bokam issued a joint statement on measures taken to maintain peace and order during this festive period.

Governors attending the conference have also been assessing the state of the socio economic development of their respective regions.

They are emphasizing on measures they have taken to implement government's instructions in relation to security, hygiene and sanitation and the execution of development projects for the wellbeing of the population.
