Govt maintains preventive measures despite end of Ebola in Nigeria

The Cameroonian authorities argue that despite the end of the Ebola fever in Nigeria announced by the World Health Organization (WHO), preventive measures remain fully in force across the country, to guard against this disease which rode around the borders.

Days after the declaration by the WHO, the prevention and awareness system remains the same, both in airports, ports and border areas, this, independently of a major trade flow between the two neighbouring countries.

However, Cameroon which had already authorized the resumption of cargo flights to Nigeria has maintained this measure, maintained the closure of the land and sea borders, waiting to see a little more the evolution of the situation".

This caution of Cameroon takes place because of the relatively long period of incubation which may extend to twentyone days, which, according to sources close to the Ministry of public health suggests that "Cameroon could take three weeks or even a month from 20 October 2014, date of the announcement of the end of the disease in Nigeria to resume normal activities with this neighbouring country".

Since the outbreak of the Ebola fever in Nigeria last August, Cameroon, as a preventative measure, decided to close its borders with Nigeria, a measure still in force.
