The dust is yet to settle over the tussle between elites of Lekie division in the Centre Region and their compatriots of the Grand-North (comprising North, Adamawa and Far North regions of Cameroon). The former is accusing the later of attempting to destabilize the current regime.

The allegation made about a week ago has not been taken lightly by Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, Speaker of the National Assembly and who happens to be one of the leading members of the Grand North elites. In a riposte to Lekie elites procured by the Journal, Cavaye describes their allegations as “inopportune” and “dangerous” for national unity and social co-existence.

The whole web of accusations and rebuttals started when at a meeting held on August 31,at Obala, a few kilomtres from Yaounde, Lekie elites deliberated extensively on the Boko Haram situation in Cameroon.

Following their meeting, the elites addressed a motion of support tagged “The Lekie Call” to the Head of State and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces President Paul Biya.

Cavaye picked issues with the said “Call.” Alluding to it, he said authors of the motion under the pretext of mobilizing compatriots for a total war against the Nigerian Islamist sect Boko Haram “instead denounced a plot by indigenes of the Grand-North aimed at destabilizing Republican institutions."

“For the population of the Grand North in general and the elites, in particular, these allegations constitute accusations qualified as very grave. Better still, they are inopportune, dangerous for Cameroon’s cohesion and prejudices national unity,” said the aging House speaker.

The Senior Grand North elite said the accusing finger pointing at valorized, dignified and faithful sons and daughters of the Grand North rather calls for the partition of Cameroon than its construction or total mobilization to fight against the common enemy – which is Boko Haram.

Conscious of the gravity of these allegations, the people and elites of Grand North through Cavaye expressed their surprise at the caliber of actors and authors of “The Lekie Call.” In addition, they said they “denounce these maneuvers which aim only at tainting the image of one part of the country while fostering individual positioning.”

Cavaye affirmed that the Grand North has never and will never nurse a “rebellion project” on a country that is making a lot of progress. Refuting the allegations which he said were “capable of instilling hatred among compatriots whose sole desire is to jointly tackle the pressing challenges of the Republic." “(Grand North) says NO to all attempts of “Rwandising'” Cameroon; reaffirm their willingness to live in peace, unity, truth and concord.

Reaffirm their absolute support for President Paul Biya. Reaffirm their total engagement to assist him build a prosperous Cameroon – an exemplary republic which we must all help reach emergence,” reads the riposte.

Meanwhile, the Grand North through Cavaye also expressed their determination and commitment to remain vigilant in order to bar the way for all attempts to destabilize Cameroon. They are also encouraging authorities for their fight against Boko Haram by tracking and reprimanding severely all complicity with the enemy.
