The supposed appearance of the ghost of one late Comfort Etta in Kumba has led to the arrest of some grave diggers.

Comfort Etta died and was buried at Lido Street Kumba last April 13, 2016 but was quickly exhumed four hours afterwards.

According to reports, recently, security elements arrested a certain Anafor who is said to be involved in the matter.

Reports also said three other persons related to the same case were arrested for questioning.

The new twist in the matter came about when neighbours of the Lido Street residence where Etta’s first grave was dug complained that it has remained open since the April 13 family dispute.

The Post learnt that ever since Etta’s corpse was exhumed the grave has not been refilled, which has left the inhabitants of the area feeling uneasy.

One of the inhabitants of the neighbourhood, who refused to be named, told The Post that the arrests may be aimed at getting all those who exhumed the corpse but failed to refill the grave.

Conflict over where to bury Etta split her family leading to the tragedy of her remains being buried and exhumed within hours.

The grave, which was reportedly dug in secret, is located in one of the rooms of a plank house.

Representatives of both parties who spoke to reporters on the day of the incident gave contrary accounts.

While one party accused the grandchildren of the deceased of hijacking family issues, the other claimed the interest of others was to get the property and sell it.

In a chat with reporters a few weeks after the incident, the Mayor of the Kumba I Council, Abel Ebako Ndoh, said the area was not suitable for burial.

The Mayor said burying people in a swampy area poses a threat to the water table and is a health risk.

He had faulted workers of the Kumba City Council for issuing burial certificates from the comfort of their offices without visiting sites chosen by families.
