A pinned grenade has reportedly been found in an abandoned car inside a garage in Maroua (Extreme North), not far from a place called 'Green bridge'. This grenade was found on Saturday, January 3, 2015. Defence forces responded promptly, arriving at the scene shorty after they were notified.
According to information relayed by CRTV national radio during the 1 p.m. news Sunday, January 4, 2015, the young mechanic who discovered it was collecting scrap metal in the said garage when he discovered it planted beneath a white car. He prompted the mechanics of the garage who in turn notified the gendarmerie brigade of Douala Rey.
Commander of gendarmerie and team after scrutiny identified it as a well pinned defensive grenade.
A defensive grenade is designed to saturate an area in metal shavings. It is a particularly effective weapon against a group of enemies in a relatively closed environment and who cannot be reached directly by firing a weapon. It's a small bomb whose firing is deliberately triggered by a suitable device.
An investigation has been opened to unravel the mystery surrounding this discovery.
