For forty years HEIFER International Cameroon has inspired hope in the lives of many in Cameroon. The HEIFER program that cuts across different farming activities such as dairy farming, cattle rearing, crop farming amongst others has made live better for over 50,000 families and communities in Cameroon.

Against this backdrop stakeholder at home and abroad came out in their numbers on June 26, 2015 to celebrate 40 years of the success story of HEIFER Cameroon. It was an event full of colour and splendor as beneficiary families were on hand to exhibit their profits.

The Minister of Livestock, Fisheries and Animal Industries, Dr Taiga called on HIEFER Cameroon to continue with their good work. He encouraged them to comb the nooks and crannies of Cameroon and make live better for Cameroonians through their various activities. He said dairy cattle and milk production are most successful in the Adamawa and North West Regions, thanks to the input of HEIFER.

He recalled that HEIFER is present in six out of the ten regions of Cameroon adding that they should extend their tentacles to the other four regions of the country. He used the opportunity to promise government support and collaboration to the organization.

On his part the Government Delegate to the Bamenda City Council, Vincent Nji Ndumu was happy that the seat of HEIFER is in his municipality. He was grateful that the organization has touched the lives of farmers in all the seven divisions of the North West Region, recalling that HEIFER helped in the settlement of some victims of the Lake Nyos gas disaster.

The government delegate said HIEFER is not only involved in farming as they have equally constructed classrooms bridges and provide drinking water to some communities in the region.

While tracing the history of HEIFER Cameroon, the Cameroon Country Director, Humphrey Taboh said it all started in Bambui when 42 dairy cattle were imported into Cameroon with the intention of making protein more available to the population of Cameroon as such the organization went operation in 1974 with the objectives of alleviating poverty through their concept of passing on the gift and helping the Cameroon government in its drive to improve the livelihood of Cameroonians.
