Hans de Marie Heungoup released

Hans de Marie Heungoup, a researcher with the International Crisis Group who also works for the Paul Ango Ela Foundation who was recently arrested has been released in Rey Bouba, North region.

He was arrested while conducting investigations for the International Crisis Group in relation to Boko Haram insurgency in the northern regions of Cameroon.

Reports from the region say the Belgian non-governmental organization which recently published a report requesting that Biya should step down after his current mandate ends in 2018, contacted the governor of the North region, Jean Edi’i Abate the previous week to find out why its agent was arrested.

But the governor claimed he was not aware that Heungoup had been arrested.
