Hectic Farewell for Presidential Couple

The Douala International Airport was venue for an enthusiastic crowd to see off President Biya and wife Chantal.

A common expression of satisfaction was on the faces of the population that turned out at the Douala International Airport on Saturday, November 16, 2013, to bid goodbye to the Head of State and wife. Though satisfied, most faces in the teeming population seemed united in the tacit quest that President Paul Biya and wife Chantal could stay a little longer. This is normal, especially among people who feel compassionate sending off the august couple they hold at heart in love.

It was about 1 pm when the Presidential jet took off from the Douala International Airport on Saturday 16 November. Douala nevertheless remains memorable to the Presidential couple and local residents who had occasion to exchange on several issues during separate audiences throughout their stay in the economic capital. The series of audiences dragged upto the last few minutes before the President's departure for the airport.

All who left the Presidential residence in Bonanjo after separate audiences with the President and First Lady visibly melted with admiration for their proximity and would wish a prolongation of their stay in the city.

All sections of life were present including other senior State authorities, local administration, religious and traditional dignitaries, militants of the Cameroon People's Democratic Movement (CPDM), as well as members of the Circle of Friends of Cameroon (CERAC) each received a warm handshake from the Presidential couple. Traditional dance and animation groups put in their best as they felt hard to agree with his leaving the city. Many more gathered besides the roads that constitute the Presidential itinerary to wave farewell as the presidential convoy passed.
