Cavaye Yeguie Djibril, Speaker of the National Assembly has appealed for support from national and international community to help curb the food crisis looming in the Northern part of the country. He was speaking in Yaounde on Thursday Dec. 11 as he chaired the closing of the plenary sitting of the National Assembly.
For a people subjected to attacks from Boko Haram and unable to harvest from their farms due to assaults, the Speaker said, the dry season is now transforming the threat of famine into a crisis that could worsen as the days go by.
He called on cereal production authority to accelerate the process of providing foodstuffs to the people living in the North and Far North regions of Cameroon.
The Speaker described the adoption of the law on the suppression of acts of terrorism as a critical step towards addressing and exterminating promoters of terror in Cameroon, adding that the holding of a special plenary session of the House on insecurity in the country provided a unique opportunity for Cameroon law makers regardless of their party leanings to clearly demonstrate their support for the fight against terrorism. He paid tributes to the Cameroon defense forces and President Paul Biya.
Cavaye expressed satisfaction with the three years emergency plan for the development of Cameroon as announced by the Head of State on Dec. 9 an Inter Ministerial Council meeting at the Unity Palace, saying it will boost economic growth in the country.
In addition to the adoption of ten other bills, notably the draft state budget for 2015 which stands at 3,746.6BFCFA and the settlement bill for 2013, the Speaker talked about activities of the different parliamentary committees and said they gave visibility to the House during the November session.
Members of the diplomatic corps, Senate executive led by Marcel Niat Njifenji and the gov’t represented by PM Philemon Yang were all present for the closing plenary session.
