On the margins of the 39th session of the annual meeting of the Board of Governors of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) in Cameroon, through its Ambassador in Djeddah, Saudi Arabia, had signed with the international financial institution, an agreement for a loan of 8 billion francs Cfa ($ 16 m), announced the Ministry of the economy in a communique.

This money, said the Ministry of economy, is intended for the financing of education in the so-called areas "of priority education", including the regions of the far North, Adamawa and East. In Cameroon, the priority education areas refer to regions of the country accused of a delay in the schooling of their populations.

Specifically, this IDB funding will be used for the construction and equipping of 40 schools and 120 homes for directors, the linking of these schools to the drinking water supply network, electrification of the said schools through solar energy, the provision of computer equipment and teaching materials, and the training of educational personnel.

The interventions of IDB in Cameroon, we noticed, has multiplied in recent months in several areas.

Last June, for example, the bank gave a financial support of 12.4 billion FCFA (a loan of 5 billion FCFA and a donation of $ 7.4 billion CFA FRANCS) to this country for the financing of projects to support the strengthening of services of primary and secondary healthcare across the country.

A few days before, the IDB granted assistance valued at some 3 billion CFA FRANCS for the improvement of production tool of the cotton development company (SODECOTON).
