The students and administration of the Institute of Maximum Potential Actualisation and Creative Technology (IMPACT) Kumbo, Bui Division, have been challenged to live up to expectations.
Francis Ndifor Nkamto, Divisional Officer for Kumbo Central Subdivision, challenged the students during the second matriculation ceremony of the institute, on December 12 as he represented Northwest Governor.
A total of 57 freshmen and women were matriculated, bringing the enrolment to over 147 students.
Meanwhile, Ndifor Nkamto said the results of the various batches at the end of course and certificate examinations will determine whether or not the institute has come of age.
Ndifor Nkamto told the Director of IMPACT Polytechnic, Dr. Mengnjo Elvis Basang, that growth is a process and lauded him for his courage in venturing into such slippery domain as higher professional education.
He also lauded the Fon of Nso, Sehm Mbinglo I, for honouring the occasion with his personal presence. He pleaded with the traditional ruler to provide land for the permanent site of the institution which, he said, was promising.
Nkamto announced the recognition of IMPACT Polytechnic Kumbo as a legal institution of higher education.
Speaking earlier, the IMPACT Director said the Ministry of Employment and Vocational Training authorised the institute two years ago “and this year, the Honourable Minister of Higher Education deemed it fit and competent to transform the school into a full-fledged polytechnic like any other one you can think of in the country.”
He said IMPACT was created in a bid to satisfy the ever-increasing demands of Bui children for higher education. He appealed to all living forces in Bui Division and beyond to take advantage of the facility and study for higher diplomas at very affordable costs.
He said plans are afoot to affiliate with the University of Bamenda to offer degree programmes.
“This, therefore, means that Bui has a university, not only a university but a professional university,” Dr. Mengnjo Basang said. He called on everyone in Bui to partner with the institute for the realisation of a dream.
According to the IMPACT Students Union President, Tume Emmanuel Ghalannyuy, the institute has not only brought knowledge but education at the doorsteps of one and all at an affordable cost.
“It has equally gone a long way to wipe out the myth of our young people who think higher education is only in Douala, Bamenda, Yaounde, and so on,” Tume said.
The Fon of Nso encouraged the population to take advantage of the school and educate their kith and kin.
