Women from a number of associations nationwide have attended a workshop on fruit transformation at the Institute of Agricultural Research for Development (IRAD).
The workshop that lasted for one week was organised by the Food and Nutrition Laboratory of IRAD in Yaoundé.
IRAD, whose mission is to improve on agricultural production through research, assembled the women to acquaint them with the new research techniques presently being experimented.
During the encounter, the researchers observed that close to 80 per cent of fruits were wasted after harvest because of the difficulties in conservation.
The transformation techniques acquired during the workshop would help farmers optimize gains and minimize loss after harvest.
The choice of women is part of government’s policy to empower the group which is at the fore front of agricultural activities in the country.
At the end of the training, an open day was organised during which the public had a taste of the finished products some of which were juice and jam.
