The administration in Wouri has taken the turn toward implementation of the recent government decision regulating the movements of heavy duty vehicles in Douala.
The government decision restricts the movements of heavy duty vehicles in the day until 9 pm in cities throughout the country. The measure follows recent accidents caused by the vehicles at Ndokotti in Douala and Biyem-Assi in Yaounde which claimed the lives of several people and destroyed properties.
A meeting of the Wouri administration with trade union representatives and other stakeholders in the sector, presided over by the Senior Divisional Officer for Wouri, Naseri Paul Bea, held in Bonanjo October 29.
It was resolved during the meeting that heavy duty vehicles, with the exception of trucks of brewery companies, trucks carrying sand and food, will stop circulating in Douala from dawn and will resume at 9 pm. Trucks carrying sand will by the decision cover the sand with a tarpaulin.
Breach of the decision will be sanctioned. A commission to implement the decision has been set up to check insecurity within the transport sector. The commission will in the days ahead check the state of vehicles, control vehicles documents, among others.
