Intellectual Property: 30 trainees receive testimonials

The graduation ceremony of the fifth batch of the Masters II Programme in intellectual property took place on Saturday June 27, 2015.

Some 30 trainees of the fifth batch of the Master’s II programme in intellectual property christened, “Denis Ekani”, received their testimonials on Saturday June 27, 2015 at the headquarters of the African Intellectual Property Organisation in Yaounde.

Speaking at the occasion, the Director General of OAPI, Paulin Edou Edou, called on the graduates to be models for others to follow. He enjoined them to be worthy ambassadors to carry the message of intellectual property to the respective administrations and jurisdictions in the different countries.

The Master’s II training programme in intellectual property is a specialised training programme destined to meet the demands of administrations, public and private enterprises of member States of OAPI and francophone countries in general in the domain of intellectual property.

The programme is undertaken in distance learning and practical work. The writing of the thesis is done following an internship period at the OAPI and marks the end of training which lasts for ten months.

The Masters II programme in intellectual property is taught in French. For the 2015 academic year, 32 students were admitted and 20 of them had World Organisation of International Property (OMPI) scholarships.

The fifth batch like the previous batches was made up of learners of different profiles notably teachers of higher education, magistrates, lawyers, agronomists, engineers and senior staff of administrations in charge of management of questions of intellectual property as well as those of the industrial sector from most member states of the OAPI. Two of the students were from non-member countries such as Madagascar and Tunisia.

The Masters II in intellectual property aims at giving both public and private enterprises competent staff in the domain of intellectual property which is an essential instrument for development. The official closing ceremony, organised by the African Intellectual Property Organisation, the World International Property Organisation and the University of Yaounde II, took place in the presence of members of the diplomatic corps, representatives of international organisations and invitees.
