Internet experts learn number management

A five-day workshop organized by ANTIC ends in Yaounde on December 12, 2014.

The National Agency for Information and Communication Technologies, ANTIC, in partnership with the African Network Information Centre (AFRINIC) has schooled system or network administrators, network or computer engineers in the country on how to better manage internet protocol addresses.

ANTIC’s General Manager, Dr. Ebot Ebot Enaw opened the internet protocol version and management of internet number resources workshop at the Yaounde Advanced School and Posts and Telecommunications on December 8, 2014.

Speaking during the opening ceremony, Dr Ebot Ebot Enaw said the workshop fell within the framework of ANTIC’s mission of planning, allocating and controlling internet protocol addresses in the country. He said it sought to arm participants with the know-how of effectively implementing the process of redesigning the internet protocol addressing plan for Cameroon.

The GM added that target was outlining mechanisms that will facilitate internet protocol migration which, he noted, does not only have an unlimited address space but also incorporates strong security guarantees. This will enable the country to avert being used as a dumping ground for outdated technologies that are no longer compatible with the future internet.

Participants said without the migration to the new addressing, Cameroon could be cut off from much of the next generation of internet thus, hampering economic growth.
