Irina Georgieva Bokova arrives in Cameroon this 15th September 2014 for a 48 hour official visit.

The Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization’s visit is part of ongoing efforts made by the organization and Cameroon to foster the 54 year old partnership.

Being one of the very important agencies of the United Nations, UNESCO’s funding has been very instrumental in the fight against poverty, provision of universal primary education, gender equity, environmental protection and the fight against HIV/AIDS and malaria in Cameroon.

These values that Cameroon hold so dear have brought the country closer to the organization and can be exemplified by a number of high level visits.

President Paul Biya was in the UNESCO headquarters (2007), First Lady Chantal Biya designated Goodwill Ambassador for Education and Social Inclusion owing to her humanitarian actions ( November 2008), former Director General of UNESCO Koichiro Matsuura’s visit in Cameroon (January 2009).
