Minesup recently failed to convince lecturers at the University of Buea to return to the lecture halls while they are determined to go all the way without dialogue with their Vice Chancellor.

"The extraordinary General Assembly expressed satisfaction with the success of the strike which took place without incident and in strict compliance with the instructions; We were able to avoid the pitfalls of the administration which very often orchestrate incidents to discredit the movements of this kind”, the Secretary-General of the Synes coordination at the University of Buea Dr. Neba Fontem said on the sidelines of the assessment meeting after a week of strike which has paralysed academic activities in the institution.

A movement that, according to local officials the SYNES followed the directive for strike launched by the national office to protest against the non-payment of the second and third instalments of research and modernization premium, this was contrary to the commitments of Jacques Fame Ndongo.

In Buea, the strike which recorded success in the opinion of SYNES was joined by lecturers who were so keen to denounce the “Machiavellian governance of Pauline Nalova Lyonga, Vice Chancellor, who launched a witch hunt against lecturers through slanderous media campaigns so as to weaken SYNES", as well as her refusal to engage in dialogue to find durable solutions to internal problems at the University.

Indeed, the Synes noted that after a week's suspension of academic activities on the campus, the administration of the University of Buea has never called on the demonstrators for a dialogue.

Indiscretions have entrusted that it is rather the Director of dialogue and the promotion of solidarity among University Professor Yanou Michael who opened the doors for dialogue on the instruction of Jacques Fame Ndongo. Thus, by teleconference, the mediator of Minesup attempted to bring the lecturers at best feelings, inviting them to exercise patience to give the Department time to solve their problem.

A speech which did not seem to convince the lecturers, thus leading to the fiasco of this mediation, and they decided to continue their strike in the logic agreed upon by the national office. Thus, 'If before November 07 all portions of our premiums are not fully paid, we will undertake an indefinite strike," said Dr. Fokam Eric Bertrand, 2nd vice President of Buea Synes, who confirmed that the watchword for this first phase was thus maintained.

Moreover, the Synes executives entrusted with regard to the convening of their two colleagues to appear before the Disciplinary Board established by the Vice Chancellor for October 30 that " the two teachers will not be judged by a University Committee which is not only illegally incorporated, but includes members of the administration who are controlled by the Vice Chancellor'.
