Jean-Baptiste Ayissi Ntsama, gold medalist at the first African Games in 1965 in Brazzaville, died on April 5, 2016, in Yaounde, at the age of 87.
It’s at the Le Jourdain Medical Center in Yaounde that Mr. Ayissi Ntsama died at the age of 87. Justine Marguerite Ndzie Ayissi, second daughter of the deceased, said: “His health became fragile because of his age. But last Saturday, his stomach began to bulge. We called his doctor who prescribed medication. But around 10: PM, the condition worsened,“ one reads in the columns of the Daily newspaper Cameroon Tribune in its edition of Wednesday, April 6, 2016, on newsstands.
The deceased was a boxing enthusiast. The Cameroonian boxing therefore somehow owes much to Jean-Baptiste Ayissi Ntsama in the fact that the Camp de l’Unité was established via his interpersonal skills. The former British boxing champion was also the coach of Joseph Bessala of late memory.
Also, some corners of his home has been made a Hall of Fame, says the Daily. His trophies and photos in black and white, his distinctions and those of his deceased son Frederick Ntsama are also visible.
In his last days, Jean-Baptiste Ayissi Ntsama converted himself into writing. In his home located at a place called SODECAO, a stone’s throw from the Mvan neighborhood, “he spent hours writing that part of the history of Cameroon he lived,” said Margaret, his daughter.
“He also planned to share a meal with everyone on April 25, as every year on the occasion of his birthday,” she laments. A project he will never realize.
