Three Ministers and a Secretary of State have been on the field in Buea on January 9 and 10, 2013 to inspect and accelerate current works on lodging and road infrastructure earmarked for the awaited celebration of the 50th anniversary in the regional Capital.
Mbwentchou Jean Claude, Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Koung à Bessike Jacqueline, Minister of State Property, Surveys and Land Tenure, Dibong née Biyong Marie Rose, Secretary of State at the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, arrived in Buea on January 9 and immediately embarked on visiting some 13 road projects meant to ease movement in Buea during the anniversary celebrations. Ama Tutu Muna breezed in the next day apparently to confirm the site for the anniversary monument in Buea.
As a major premium of their presence on the ground, Minister Mbwentchou announced the increase of the budget from an initial CFA 4.5 billion to 5. 569 billion. The Minister's approval for the construction with bituminous or tarred surface of the 7 Kilometre Afosi - Bokwai - Muea stretch of road necessitated the increase on the budget. Originally, the road so dear to the people of Buea, was simply to be graded. As experts of MINHDU put it, "...it is one of the most important road stretches that gives a secondary exit by the left side of the main road axis ..." In the same vein, the joint Ministerial mission to Buea ordered that the old houses near the ceremonial ground of the event be demolished by the Buea Council with immediate effect to give more allowance to the new Grand Stand being erected there. To give the preparations the deserved speediness, the ministerial mission gave March 31 as the deadline for all works to be completed on the ground.
Visiting the Parliamentarian Flats under renovation in the second day of the mission to Buea, the Ministers expressed dismay that only about 20 percent of the work that begun over six months ago has been achieved. The South West Governor, Bernard Okalia Bilai, expressed his worry over the delay on the Parliamentarian Flats and went further to say that each time he visits the site only some low-level labourers attend to him. "The contractor is never there", he stressed.
The Ministers moved to Limbe Thursday to inspect the sites of a social lodging housing scheme earmarked for construction in no distant future.
The Ministerial mission was accompanied by authorities of SIC, FEICOM, Labogenie, ANOR, MAETUR and CREDIT FONCIER.
