The Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) through its Overseas Volunteer Programme under the canopy of World Friends Korea, on Tuesday February 26, 2013, handed over two of its four projects designed for the Wabane community in Lebialem Division of the South West Region.
The project which is a fish farm will improve the socio-economic conditions of the population as they can gain substantial revenue from the activity. The second project is the supply of potable water to the community. Through this scheme, water channels and taps have been built at the Government Primary School and at Community Education and Action Centre (CEAC), Wabane.
The handover ceremony started with a visit to the two project sites by the representative of the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Leku A. Francis, the KOICA team headed by OH Young Jun and the Mayor of Wabane, Nembo Ketu Israel. The delegations could appreciate efforts of the Korean volunteers who have been working in this community for the past one year. The final part of the ceremony at the council premises saw a series of speeches and presentations which all focused on the executed and future projects. The Volunteer Programme Manager of KOICA called for cooperation to enable sustainability of the projects, while building a firm relation between Wabane and KOICA on the one hand and the two countries on the other.
Worthy of note is the fact that the two other projects of water supply and a poultry farm were earlier handed over to the population of Olounou, Dja et Lobo Division of the South Region on Friday February 22, 2013. The Volunteer Programme being managed by KOICA has so far brought in 31 Korean junior experts to several communities in varied fields of technical assistance, covering five different regions in Cameroon. In about two months, the North West Region being the 6th will benefit from the knowledge and experience of two volunteers in Beauty Care and Special Education.
