The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has given cartoons of dates to refugees and internally people in Cameroon.

The donation from the Saudi Arabian Embassy in Cameroon was handed was to the Assistant Director of the World Food Programme in Cameroon for onward transmission to the right quotas.

Handing over the dates, the Saudi Arabian Ambassador in Cameroon, His Excellency Mohammed Suliman Almussher said his country has been supporting the government of Cameroon since the outbreak of crisis in the Central African Republic greatly felt in the East Region.

The Diplomat added that Saudi Arabia has also join Cameroon in her fight against terrorism especially the Boko Haram insurgency in the Far North of Cameroon.

The donation from the Ministry of Agriculture Hassa Irrigation and Authority of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia according to the Ambassador is to ensure that the displaced and victims of unrest in the country know they are not left on their own.

Receiving the cartoons of dates, Elvira Pruscini and her delegation from the World Food Programme in the Country, appreciated the gesture.

The World Food Programme representative in Cameroon said Saudi Arabia has been a key actor in supporting refugees, displaced persons and victims of war in the country.

She added that the kingdom of Saudi Arabia has at now contributed over 2 million US meant for the vulnerable groups in the country.

The donation coincided with the month of Ramadan, a period of generosity to Muslim faithful. Dates are fruits that provide a wide range of nutrients to the human body and is considered a luxury in the Arab world.
