Suspected members of Boko Haram carried out a bloody attack on Sunday at Kolofota in Northern Cameroon.

16 people were killed, according to a media reports as at Sunday evening. Several others were taken hostage, including the wife of the Deputy Prime Minister, Amadou Ali.

The hostages are still being held in captivity. They would be more than twenty, including the mayor of the city of Kolofata, his wife and his two daughters, and wife of Deputy Prime Minister in charge of relations with Parliament.

Early this morning, sources claim the hostages had been released. Several media outlets, including RFI, have even announced the said release.

However, relatives of Deputy Prime Minister Amadou Ali say there is still no news on all the hostages, according to latest developments.

Violent attack

The only thing we know is that their captors are presented as belonging to Boko Haram. They came by hundreds on Sunday at dawn in Kolofata, where they terrorized the whole morning, causing many civilian and military casualties.

The last review reported 16 dead; slain for the most part. The attackers were particularly violent in the attack on the residence of the Deputy Prime Minister, Amadou Ali, on which they fired rocket launchers killing members of his family.

No group has yet claimed responsibility for the attacked described by government "unspeakable."
