Kondengui Prison: Charity donates to minor inmates

The association Relais Enfants-Parents du Cameroun visited minors of the Kondengui Prison yesterday June 16, 2016.

It was a happy day for minor inmates of the Yaounde Central Prison yesterday June 16, 2016. The event was a special meal for the inmates offered by the NGO “Relais Enfants-Parents du Cameroun” (REPCAM).

The NGO gave food as well as hygiene and sanitation items to ensure a healthy environment for the inmates. This event was in line with celebrations to mark the 26th edition of the Day of the African Child.

Speaking at the occasion, the Superintendent of Prisons, Etoundi Pierre Landry, hailed REPCAM for the continuous support to minor inmates in the Kondengui Central Prison.

He assured the officials of REPCAM of the support of the penitentiary administration in their activities.

The President of REPCAM, Claire Mimboe Ndi Samba said the visit was to celebrate the Day of the African Child with the minors and to give them love.

The particularity for this year was the payment of the fines of some inmates who have ended their prison terms but could not clear their financial commitments.

A total of FCFA 385,000 was paid as fines for five inmates who according to Claire Ndi Samba, have no families and are abandoned.

Apart from that, FCFA 76, 000 was paid as fine for one of the inmates who was supposed to be liberated yesterday. The other four will be freed in the days ahead. The five minors promised REPCAM and prison officials that they will become responsible citizens and never to return to prison.

The inmates also listened to an educative talk on the theme; “Conflicts and crisis in Africa: Let’s protect the rights of all children.”

The event was marked by singing and music competitions, quiz and animation by the inmates as a sign of appreciation to REPCAM.
