Last Friday, Patrice Amba Salla, of the Ministry of Public Works, descended on the Mboro construction site, a town 35 km south of Kribi, on the road to Campo, to assess the progress on the Complexe industrialo-portuaire de Kribi (Cipk), which according to the engineers is well over 90 per cent.
The ministerial visit came within the framework of a three day trip in the south. At this stage, it was found the first phase of the construction of the port is on schedule to be finished and the ministry was impressed with the Chinese and Cameroonian workers.
It noted people were working tirelessly round the clock to complete the construction, now considered a major asset of the country, as soon as possible, ensuring administrative buildings, unit firefighters and other security structures are firmly in place.
The CIPK, like all construction projects of infrastructure must incorporate the state through the Ministry of Public Works.
A status conferred by decree of 13 September 2013, created two branches: the technical studies and the infrastructure work.
This decree assigns the Ministry of Public Works mission control execution of infrastructure works.
Minister Amba Salla also appreciated the quality of compliance with standards and especially the deadlines for delivery of the item.
In most cases, companies have admitted to requesting an extension of the deadlines for completion of the work.
Although the port itself is almost ready the same cannot be said in regards to the port access road.
Lo I, the one who will bridge the Kienke at Grand Batanga has an overall progress of 29.55 per cent. As for Lot II, which runs from Grand Batanga to Mboro, it recorded a physical implementation rate of 26.13 per cent.
Funding for the highway to serve the port is already available.
Thus reach cruising speed in the implementation phases of the project, covering the periods 2010-2018, 2018 2025, 2025 2035 and 2035 for the following years.
The development of CIPK program is well-known and its four components will be implemented gradually.
This is the port of the highway that goes from Edea industrial zone, the qualified "Kribi new town" and deep-water port urban area.
All this will create thousands of direct and indirect jobs. Many large ships will dock at Mboro holders and the engineer of the State shall ensure the conformity of the work, before putting the infrastructure available to traders.
