Heavy prison sentences are hanging over two suspects in Kumbo in the Northwest Region.
After years of prayer and fasting for some family members of Bui and Donga Mantung divisions in the Northwest Region, the Commission for Justice and Peace of the Diocese of Kumbo managed to bring back 70 girls meant for human trafficking to the Middle East. They had to do odd jobs there, including sexual slavery, if one believes the The Guardian Post newspaper.
According to Isidore Lukong, the Justice and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Kumbo is now trying to rehabilitate them. The girls were recovered as they were led to three destinations in the Middle East: Kuwait, Lebanon and Dubai.
The newspaper says that most of these girls receive medical care in some health centers in both divisions, but especially at the Shisong Hospital. Some received financial help while others, psychologically traumatized, are undergoing counseling and are spiritually framed.
The Guardian Post suggested that the Justice and Peace Commission of the Diocese of Kumbo were not only willing to bring the trafficked girls back, but also tried to identify the traffickers.
Presently, two men suspected of being the sponsors of this traffic are incarcerated and will be tried in the court of first instance in Kumbo in the Bui division.
According to Lukong Isidore, the law takes its course and traffickers will necessarily be punished. The sanction imposed on them will be an example to others who will lend themselves to human trafficking.
Many African women who are employed as domestic workers in countries of the Middle East are treated with no respect for the human condition. In 2015, Gertrude Megne testified on the airwaves of Radio France Internationale (RFI), saying: “I hope that my testimony will be a lesson to all those who respond to calls from unknown people promising them work abroad” .
According to this Cameroonian, traffickers sell the girls who are then, abused, malnourished and have no way to return home.
