Last Homage for Dr. Ngou Ngoupayou

The late Director of CARBAP, Njombe will be buried this weekend.

Researchers in Cameroon yesterday, March 27, 2014, paid their last respects to another colleague at the Institute of Agricultural Research (IRAD) in Nkolbissson, Yaounde.

After the academic honours organised for late Dr. Ekue Ndomo Fabian on Wednesday March 26, 2014, yesterday was the turn of Dr. Ngou Ngoupayou Jean Daniel, former Director of the African Centre for Research on Banana Plantain, CARBAP who died on March 14, 2014.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister of Scientific Research and Innovation, Madeleine Tchuinte, described him as a talented professional with exemplary skills in research management. She said Dr. Ngou Ngoupayou saw through all the changes that IRAD and the Ministry of Scientific Research and Innovation underwent. This, according to her, made him an expert in scientific research. She called on young researchers to emulate his example so as to maintain research in Cameroon at the international level.

Dr. Ngou Ngoupayou Jean Daniel was born on September 4, 1953 in Foumbot in the Noun Division of the West Region. After secondary and high school education, he got admission into the University of Yaounde where he obtained a Diploma in Scientific Studies, DEUG. He later received a scholarship to study at the University of Arizona, USA where he obtained a Master of Sciences, Msc degree in Agricultural Biochemistry and Nutrition in 1979 and a Doctor of Philosophy, PhD in Nutritional Sciences with specialization in Animal Nutrition, in 1982.

Dr. Ngou Ngoupayou was recruited into the Public Service in 1982. His consistent research productivity resulted in his steady rise through all of the research ranks in Cameroon, becoming a Director of Research. He was Director of CARBAP from 2009 until March 14, 2014. The mortal remains will be laid to rest in his home town in the West Region this weekend.
