Colonel Didier Badjeck responds to Amnesty International

The head of the communication division at the Ministry of Defense, Colonel Didier Badjeck, has criticized the report by Amnesty International accusing the Cameroonian army of violations of the human rights in its fight against the terrorist sect Boko Haram.

His response comes after that of the Minister of Communication who also debunked the report on September 17, 2015.

Colonel Didier Badjeck was invited on the weekly radio show ‘Honneur et Fidélité’ (Crtv National station). According to him, the claim has overwhelmed the Cameroonian army who believe it’s a fabrication and conspiracy.

“We have the impression of having an organization that has an agenda. I can tell you that a report such as that and which has just been released is simply ridiculous and reflects the findings to variable geometry which are made by some when it comes to Cameroon.

Don’t you think that the constant attacks are committed to fondle us, or a hazard when they converge at the same time especially when there are facts which have nothing to do with the realities on the ground," said Colonel Didier Badjeck.

The senior Army officer qualified the report by Amnesty as “Cabale Internationale” and denounced "slanderous attitudes, portrayed in an excessive manner." For him, Cameroon leads the war against Boko Haram in transparency. The war pilot cited the example of "some terrorists who were tried in accordance with laws.”

He suggested that Amnesty should rather support and assist victims of Boko Haram. "As this NGO is very sensitive to human sufferings, it should work on the cases of widows and orphans and perhaps should act towards their comfort."

Colonel Badjeck swore that "whenever a discrepancy manifested itself on the part of an element of the defense forces, the high command has been ruthless. We have seen top officials sanctioned and even relieved from their functions", he hammered while trying to explain derivatives of the Cameroonian soldiers at the front.

“The extremely harsh conditions of the battlefield, the horrors that these soldiers witness at areas where their brothers who step on the mines, lacerated populations, and their throats cut off. This situation is unsustainable. It may happen that by implication, men are nervous and it is human!" he believed.

Didier Badjeck mobbed the media who applauded the report of Amnesty international. And in a phrase, he noted: "we have therefore no moral lesson to receive from anyone. Cameroon is a country courageous and respectful of human rights.”
