Lom Pangar Dam Project: Minister appeases workers

The Minister of Labour and Social Security, Gregoire Owona, has met with workers of the Lom Pangar Hydroelectric Dam Project in the East region.

The Minister was at the work site after receiving rumours about a planned sit-in strike to protest difficult working conditions.

During the encounter with the workers, Minister Gregoire Owona was updated with a list of grievances including the non-payment of workers’ bonuses.

The Minister agreed with the disgruntled workers on a number of issues including the necessity to have all their dues paid.

He however cautioned them not to stop work for the situation will have a negative impact on the progress of the construction of the dam.

He not only promised immediate action in relation to their problems but took the opportunity to work with the management team to improve on the general working conditions within the project site.

At the end of the meeting, the representative of the disgruntled workers expressed gratitude to the Minister and promised to get immediately to work, taking all precautions to improve on the social climate of the enterprise.
