Lom Pangar dam construction in the operational phase

Seven trucks containing parts for hydro-electro building materials from the port of Douala unloaded their content Wednesday on the construction site of the Lom Pangar dam in the eastern region.

These are basic parts used in the construction of the dam. "The arrival of this materials complies with the provisional timetable and confirms the determination of the contracting authority to achieve their goal in September 2015", said Electricity Development Corporation (EDC) in a press release.

These equipments will help to retain water, make the turbines and pass the withholding water for watering the Sanaga River. While the first consignment arrived at the site, a second batch of seven other trucks left the port of Douala to Lom Pangar.

The last of the materials for this first wave will leave the economic capital on Saturday. In its release, EDC noted that: "the arrival of first equipment corresponds to a turning point which marks a new step, probably the most important leading to the implementation of the dam." So therefore, they constitute the operational part of the dam.

Above that, added EDC, "having regard to the current status of the dam, we cannot continue to put concrete without making sure we have set pieces that will secure the return of the blocked water and operate the plant foot.

Lom Pangar hydroelectric project aims to increase the capacity of electricity production and the reduction in seasonal fluctuations of flow of the Sanaga River, as well as the improvement of access to electricity in Cameroon.

It consists of the construction of a dam with a capacity of 6 billion cubic meters of water of a hydroelectric power station at the foot of the dam with a capacity of 30 megawatts and a line of transport of energy for electrification of the eastern region.
