The Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation Rene Emmanuel Sadi has chaired the fifth session of the Ad hoc Committee in charge of the coordination of assistance to refugees in Cameroon.
The session which took place in Yaounde was held at a time when the management of refugees is becoming an increasingly challenging task for government and her development partners.
In addition to the 300,000 refugees from Central African Republic, government is presently expected to manage an additional 53,000 persons displaced in the country due to Boko Haram insurgence in the Far North of the country.
This explains why the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralisation, Rene Emmanuel Sadi called on members to be proactive while thanking development partners including the UNDP active participation in the management of refugees in the country.
The Minister recommended a comprehensive action plan that enhances coordination between government and development partners.
According to the Coordinator of the United Nations System's in Cameroon, Najat Rochdi the action plan shall facilitate the management of the increasingly growing refugee population.
In the meantime, the key challenges include the restoration of the civil status registration and the protection of the local population.
As a signatory to the Kampala Convention on Refugee, the country`s budget allocation to refugees and vulnerable people has increased.
