A two-day capacity building workshop ended in Yaounde on August 13.

Officials of the Ministry of the Economy, Planning and Regional Development (MINEPAT) who are focal points of archival management have been told that a better functioning of the ministry depends largely on its ability to document information for future use.

Gilbert Didier Edoa, Secretary General of MINEPAT, made the clarion call on August 12 while chairing a two-day capacity building workshop for stakeholders in archives management of the ministry.

Mr Edoa told the archive focal points that efficient archives feature prominently on the list of virtues of good governance and MINEPAT could not be indifferent to it, especially at a time government is resolute in improving on its governance system.

“Reason why it is necessary to take adequate measures to render public all information at our disposal so as to promote transparency, credibility and celerity at work,” Mr. Edoa said.

Drawing inspiration from the 2014 International Archives Day commemorated on June 9 on the theme, “Contribution of archives in the performance of administrations: Stakes and challenges” the SG enjoined the workshop participants to learn better and put the knowledge into effective use for change in the sector.

Coming two years after a similar workshop was organized, trainees learned basic skills on the techniques, classification, research for information and archiving, mastered the tools and archival procedures, identified the different storage tools as well as mastered the legal obligations in archive management.
