The SDF Member of Parliament, MP, for the Mifi Division, Deffo Oumbé Sangong, recently donated 200 desks to 10 primary and secondary schools in the Bafoussam I, II and III Subdivisions of Mifi Division.

Each school received 20 desks. The gesture is within the framework of micro grants to MPs.

The donation, according to the MP, was in response to the demands of the school authorities. He, however, added that the primary beneficiary of the gift are the children who are leaders of tomorrow and that it is only through quality education that they can better be prepared for the task.

Advising the students to make good use of the benches, Sangong enjoined them to respect the basic rules of hygiene, which would help the students to steer clear of contamination and diseases. He equally prescribed discipline, hard work and enjoined the children to shun deviant practices such as drug abuse, alcoholism and gambling.

At every stop, the beneficiaries lauded the MP for his precious gift which would resolve the prominent problem of congested classrooms, among other worries such as lack of appropriate classrooms, latrines, other infrastructure and computer kits.

A glaring and pathetic case was in Government Technical School Goueuh in Bamougoum where the only available classroom, that had been offered by an elite, and which used to serve as a workshop, now hosts seven classrooms that have been divided with plywood, most of them without benches, making the teaching and learning process very difficult.

According to the Principal of the school, the gift was being received like manna from heaven.

The Principal of Government Bilingual High School Ngouache, Joseph Mbadie, for his part, said the gift was a stitch in time.

“I am so impressed and I thank the honorable MP for the gesture. We have a lot of problems, which include: benches and infrastructural problems. It is the first time that a Parliamentarian is donating something to our school and we can only say ‘thank you,’” Mbadie said.

With regards to all the worries presented, the SDF MP promised to handle them in due course.

Some of the schools that receive the benches include: Government Primary Schools Famla, Fampie, Tougan II, Houhekong, Houkaha, and GTC Tayim.
