MPs Discuss Communication Problems With MTN

Members of the Production and Trade Committee of the National Assembly on March 27, 2013 presented problems of intermittent network interruptions, lack of access to network in some localities and the issue of high call rates to the mobile telephone company, MTN Cameroon. The lawmakers had a working session with MTN officials aimed at listening to the quality of the company's services and challenges faced.

The Chairman of the Production and Trade Committee, Hon. Lekene Donfack presided at the interactive deliberations. The Chief Executive Officer of MTN Cameroon, Karl O. Toriola in a presentation said, "Our mission is to offer innovative, simple and affordable quality services to meet the communication needs of the population." The company has been operating in Cameroon since 2000 and has invested roughly FCFA 500 billion to build state-of-the-art, reliable, extended, robust and world-class telecommunication network, its CEO explained.

He further disclosed that MTN network covers all the 10 regions of Cameroon, providing continuous service in all localities with more than 5,000 inhabitants. To meet the needs of the population, Karl O.Toriola said, MTN invests an average of FCFA 50 billion each year, he said. It activated the 1,000th based station on its network in November 2012 and now has over 7.3 million clients.

Toriola promised future opportunities in the new digital world that will lead to permanent bridging of the digital divide with the ultimate goal of sustainable socio-economic growth and development. The MTN senior official prayed the partnership with government will enable the company exploit the immense potential of the Cameroonian telecommunications industry to the satisfaction of the people.
