SDF members of parliament for Donga Mantung Awudu Cyprian, Esther Ngala Ntala and those of Boyo, Njon Evaristus Ndim and Wainanchi Honourine, have expressed disappointment over government’s lack of enthusiasm to execute promised major development projects in the North West Region.

They voiced their concerns in Yaounde following the presentation of Cameroon’s economic, financial, social and cultural programme for 2015 in parliament on Tuesday Nov. 24th by Prime Minister Philemon Yang.

The law makers are worried that though the draft budget of the country saw an increase of 13.12%, very little was going to change as far as the living conditions of Cameroonians are concerned, particularly those of the North West Region.

Njon Evaristus questioned why the Menchum Hydro electric power plant announced for construction in January 2013 has been completely forgotten. “This is a project that will increase energy production by 450 megawatts according to government estimates. But nothing is being done about it. Is it because it is in the North West? This is injustice to the people of this region,” he said.

Awudu Cyprian, SDF parliamentary group leader, lamented how the ring road which was supposed to be a gift to the people of the North West by the President remains uncompleted close to 15 years after he (President Paul Biya) promised he was personally going to supervise the project.

The stretch of road between Mbouda and Bamenda which is in a very bad state risking the lives of many Cameroonians plying it was also a major worry to Esther Ngala. She called on government to wake up from slumber and come to the rescue of the people of the region who use that stretch of road every day.

Wainanchi Honourine, in parliament for her very first term is very worried about the low consumption of government budget with each passing year which continues to make the conditions of the population miserable.

She is advocating for more farm to market roads, schools and health centres to careter for the needs of the local population.

In a country where corruption and embezzlement are the order of the day, the MPs say unless government is really committed in the fight, no matter how much the budget increases, it will remain in the hands of a few, thereby impoverishing the masses.
